UPCARE® eMR is designed with a full complement of capabilities to improve quality, reduce medical errors, and increase patient satisfaction.
Common Registration/Scheduling
UPCARE eMR's Common Registration/Scheduling functionality bridges the inpatient/outpatient environments by providing a way to register inpatients and outpatients in a common, Web-based application, and then transmit that registration to one of more Hospital Information Systems (HIS) or Practice Management Systems (PMS).
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
UPCARE eMR's Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) allows physicians and other care practitioners the ability to place their orders, including medication orders, directly into the computer. While it's no secret that CPOE hasn't been widely embraced by physicians, this module has been designed from the ground up to provide physicians with the speed and ease of use that they demand. Safety features such as alerts and reminders are present but can be customized through our Object Logic Engine by your organization, so that they become useful rather than hindrances for your care providers.
Order Management

UPCARE eMR's Order Management provides inpatient clerks and nurses with the ability to send orders to ancillary units in the hospital. If your hospital has an ancillary unit with an information system that can accept an HL7 order message, UPCARE eMR is designed to communicate readily with that installed system. However, UPCARE eMR can communicate with virtually any legacy system, even those without HL7 interface capabilities. And even in those cases in which the ancillary department does not have an information system, UPCARE eMR will transmit the order to the department and help manage the work of that department via a dynamic work list (essentially eliminating the need for paper transmission of orders). The Order Management module works in conjunction with the Results Reporting module, sharing the same Clinical Data Repository (CDR) and Master Person Index (MPI).
Results Reporting

UPCARE eMR's Results Reporting module provides physicians and other clinicians with a consolidated, secure, Web-based view of lab tests, radiology reports, EKG waveforms and reports, and dictated notes and summaries. An integral part of this module is the Clinical Data Repository (CDR), which stores the results in relationship to a Master Person Index (MPI). If your organization already has an MPI, UPCARE eMR is designed to work with it. If not, UPCARE eMR's CDR contains an MPI.
Master Person Index (MPI)
An integral component of this module is the Master Person Index (MPI). The application's Common Registration module retrieves data from, and contributes data to, the MPI. This means the process of subsequent registration is greatly simplified by verifying information, rather than re-entering it. When UPCARE eMR's Common Registration is present in the outpatient setting, the application's Order Entry module can be extended to that environment to provide seamless transmission of registration and order information from ambulatory settings to the hospital.
Clinical Data Repository
UPCARE eMR builds on your existing systems and brings them closer together by generating master records within one Clinical Data Repository (CDR). The platform gives you a 360 degree view of patient information from multiple sources, and within a single user interface. UPCARE eMR draws more value from your data by presenting users with additional context, more complete query results, and a central point of access for updating records across the entire healthcare enterprise. As you add UPCARE eMR modules, you gradually build the repository and develop a powerful platform for electronic workflow. The repository also provides backup for critical data and a migration path for transitioning from legacy systems.
Data Accuracy
UPCARE eMR's intelligent screens actually work to improve the accuracy of your records. Required fields and drop-down selections decrease the likelihood of clerical and transcription errors that could lead to medical errors. With UPCARE eMR, you can reduce the time you spend interpreting handwriting and backtracking to complete records accurately. The screen and workflow layout of UPCARE eMR guarantees any necessary up-front data capture.
Security Architecture
UPCARE Technology is committed to delivering security features that go far beyond baseline HIPAA compliance. UPCARE eMR provides advanced protection and confidentiality to processes across your healthcare enterprise. Each UPCARE eMR component comes with security features such as patient record locking, audit trails, field-level restrictions, password protection, and 128-bit SSL encryption. UPCARE eMR's ability to dynamically transfer access rights within the census will improve your workflow. Only appropriate individuals may obtain patient information, and only at the proper time as responsibilities transfer from various personnel. The security system is stringent yet flexible to map to each customer's security policies while maintaining conformance with HIPAA requirements. And with this elevated level of patient privacy, you can safely share information from your data repository with outreach affiliates.
